A sea witch - sometimes used interchangeably with a beach witch or ocean witch - uses items associated with the earth’s flowing waters to fuel their craft. They can use items they find at the beach, along the riverside, or around lakes. A sea witch is usually attuned with the element of water and will learn the properties of the element across multiple sources such as the ocean, rivers, lakes, storms/rains, and charged water from the sun/moon. Sea witches are inevitably linked to lunar magick due to tidal force. They may be more drawn to the allure of nighttime as a result.

Even if you didn’t think of sea witchery as a set metaphysical path, I am sure an image comes to your mind when you hear the term. A young girl, fascinated with mermaids, who swims and walks on the beach once a week. Maybe she surfs or has a fascinating seashell collection in her room. Her obsession with the ocean is only strengthened by how close she lives to the beach. Although this may be a story to many sea witches, this is not always the case. Sea witches can be found across the entire globe. We can find them along our coastlines, walking along the busy city streets, or hiding out in a midwestern suburb. A sea witch may feel most at home with direct access to a body of water, but their location never takes away from who they are at their core, a certified aquaphile. The call to the ocean is not limited by something as simple as distance, afterall the moon can pull its tides from nearly 240,000 miles away, I would say it is quite experienced with long-distance relationships.

A sea witch may find their call to the sea begins with an affinity for the water element, expanded by a connection to nature hikes. Even if they don’t have access to the sea directly they may find waterfalls, rivers, ponds, and lakes. The size of the water source does not matter for sea witches. Sea witches tend to be collectors and find fascination with rocks, crystals, sea shells, glass, feathers, etc. whatever they can get their hands on they may find themselves hoarding.

Sea Witchery is the practice of using the items and energies provided by bodies of water to bring about desired changes. If you feel called to the practice and want to learn more. You can find spells, workings, and more here.
