Rejecting A 24 Hour Cycle

The 24-hour cycle is deeply masculine in both a spiritual and physical sense. Male hormones function on a 24-hour cycle. Testosterone levels are highest in the morning and lowest in the evening. Energy and vitality are increased with testosterone levels, so they more easily fall asleep at night and wake up in the morning. (This hormone cycle can be altered when men stay up later and cause a shift in when testosterone levels rise and fall, however, they will generally continue to function in the 24 hour cycle.) The Sun is a symbol of the divine masculine and much like the male hormone cycle it has a 24 hour cycle of sunrise and sunset. (Disclaimer: The Solar Cycle is 11 years, we’re focusing on the daily cycle of the sun as seen from Earth).

The daily cycle is molded by an inaccurate understanding of scheduling. Work 8 hours a day, sleep 8 hours a day, and care for the body the other 8. That is of course the image of the day they would like to create for us, but reality is we aren’t getting 8 hours of sleep, plenty of us work more than 8 hours a day, and depression, anxiety,  responsibilities, chores, and overall exhaustion, interfere with our care for self. Overall, it’s fair to say that many of us do not thrive under this 24 hour regimen. We attempt to find ways to squeeze into it with time management and (hopefully) two days off a week, but the routine just falls out of sync. For this reason AMAB individuals who are meant to thrive in this environment still find themselves drained or suffering.

Female hormones function in a 28 day cycle (for some of us it may be a bit more or less, but generally the given number is 28). AFAB individuals will find their energy levels fluctuate with their cycle accordingly. Do any AFAB people ever find that there’s one day that you get a lot more done than usual that happens every once in a while? That once in a while is most likely a monthly occurrence caused by rising estrogen levels. Scheduling for the most productive outcomes during low energy days would be different from high estrogen days in our cycle.  The mirrors our moon which cycles around our Earth on a 28 day cycle. While the Sun is associated with the divine masculine our moon is associated with the divine feminine.

Biologically individuals with more female hormones will find benefits to altering their schedules based on a 28 day cycle. (As someone who currently makes their own schedule, I will be making these adjustments immediately.) However, those who want to connect to more spiritual energy and disconnect from materialist or capitalist demands, may also find benefits to connecting with the 28 day cycle.
